Every robotaxi, counted one at a time
Texas registers autonomous vehicles individually rather than as a headline number, so the fleet can be read car by car: which platform each operator actually runs, how old those cars are, and which of them were built to drive themselves instead of being retrofitted to.
The passenger fleet, vehicle by vehicle
One mark for one registered vehicle. Highlighted marks are cars built to drive themselves — no steering column to remove, no driver seat to design around. Everything else is a production car retrofitted with a sensor stack.
How old each fleet is
Model year across every registered vehicle, brightest for the newest. A bar that is dark on the left and bright on the right is a fleet mid-replacement; a bar that is bright end to end was bought all at once.
Three fleets are visibly changing platform. Waymo runs 767 Jaguar I-PACEs against 221 newer Zeekr RTs, its first purpose-built car. Nuro has moved from a Prius fleet registered in 2021 and 2022 to Lucid Gravitys registered for 2026. Zoox is the starkest: its Toyota Highlanders carry 2017 and 2019 model years, older than anything else on the registry, while the pods it designed itself carry 2024.
What these cars actually are
Every make and model on the registry, with the operator running it. A vehicle built for autonomy is a capital commitment a retrofit is not, so the split says more about strategy than a fleet count does.

Where the fleets physically live
San Francisco requires a company to register every location it occupies, with the date it took the site and the date it gave it up. Read in order that is a depot and office footprint over time, including the sites an operator has left — which is the only public trace of a fleet contracting. It covers one city, so read it as a window rather than a census.
Waymo holds 22 live registrations in the city and has released 4. Nuro is the clearest contraction on the list, having given up more sites than it kept. A registration is a tax record rather than a depot licence, so a large yard and a small office count the same here; use the count as a presence signal and the dates as the timeline.
The freight carriers
Driverless trucking companies register on the same list and file no passenger crash record, so this is the only place they are counted. They are excluded from every robotaxi figure above.

Texas requires an autonomous carrier to register each vehicle it operates commercially, which makes this the only public roster of what these fleets consist of rather than how large they are. Everywhere else, fleet composition is whatever an operator chooses to say in a press release.
It is a Texas census, not a national one. A car registered in California or Arizona and never operated in Texas does not appear here, so these counts are a floor on each operator’s total fleet and a complete picture only of its Texas operation. Read the platform mix as representative and the totals as partial.
Model year is the manufacturer’s designation, not the date a car entered service. A 2026 model year can be registered well before 2026, which is why Tesla and Avride show fleets entirely on a model year that has not finished. It is a reliable signal of relative age and an unreliable one of absolute age.
The registry counts cars, not capacity. For what the authority permits, see the authorized fleet; for what those cars did on the road, the utilization record; and for the recall history attached to these same base vehicles, the platform recalls.
